This song is about Beren waiting for his love L�thien in the halls of Mandos after his death. Their bond was so strong that when Beren died, L�thien died as well. This was the one time Mandos allowed anyone to return back to life.

The last verse is where Mandos is moved by L�thien's song of sorrow (hints the name) and lets them return to Middle-Earth.

Actually, all the elves were allowed to come back to life after they spent proper amount of time in the Halls of Mandos. Most of them have never left Valinor after that but there were some exeptions. Glorfindel, for example, "died" fighting a Balrog while escaping Gondolin. He was permitted to return to Middle-Earth somewhere around the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd Age.

It sounds like he says 'saracens' instead of 'sorrows sang softly'. Just putting it out there...
