You Didnt Have To Be So Nice Lyrics

Artist: Lovin' Spoonful

You Didn't Have To Be So Nice
The Lovin' Spoonful
- written by John Sebastian and Steve Boone
- as recorded by The Lovin' Spoonful (released November 27, 1965)
- entered the Billboard Top 40 the week of Dec 11, 1965, and
stayed for 9 weeks, peaking at #10 the week of January 22, 1966.

You didn't have to be so nice
I would have liked you anyway
If you had just looked once or twice
And gone upon your quiet way

Today I said the time was right for me to follow you
I knew I'd find you in a day or two
And it's true

You came upon a quiet day
You simply seemed to take your place
I knew that it would be that way
The minute that I saw your face

And when we've had a few more days (when we've had a few more days)
I wonder if I'll get to say (wonder if I'll get to say)
You didn't have to be so nice (be so nice)
I would have liked you anyway (would have liked)

Today I said the time was right for me to follow you (today said that the time was right to follow you)
I knew I'd find you in a day or two (I knew that I would find you in a day or two)
And it's true

You didn't have to be so nice (didn't have to be so nice)
I would have liked you anyway (would have liked you anyway)
If you had just looked once or twice (once or twice)
And gone upon your quiet way (quiet way)

One of the best groups ever in this 67 year old opinion. Truly a great song. I will be seeing the "Spoonful" tomorrow night (2/11/2011) in concert in Bettendorf, Iowa. Should be a great time with 3 of the original guys still going strong!!

1 hour and 40 minutes of non-stop tremendous music by the "Spoonful" at their concert last Friday, Feb. 11. Steve Boone, Jerry Yester, and Joe Butler are the class of the 60's!!
If you ever have a chance to see The Lovin' Spoonful in concert don't pass it up, you will not be disappointed.

My wife loves the Lovin Spoonful when they sing "Never Goin' Back To Nashville Anymore" I like 'em when they sing "Nashville Cats" and "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?" and of course, "Summer In The City" Great, great American Band.
