To be a Muslim was his destiny, his path. Yusuf Islam would not be the legend he is if he was not so deeply sincere. Don't try to separate Cat Stevens from Yusuf Islam, and say you love one but dislike the other. He is not a hypocrite, so it is ugly to respond with hypocrisy. He did not sell out and be the person others wanted him to be; he preferred to love God over world. You can tell from his songs and lyrics that he was a good man, searching. Now it is obvious that he found his way home, and is an even better man.

Maybe if they changed their names to "Youssef" something, then they would surge the internet to get coverage...Forget Allah and Praise GOD! Amen.
Mr. Stevens wrote this song along with many of his other songs that make sense when he was Christian/Catholic and he never sued anyone then; however, now that Mr. Islam is Muslim, I don't recall any of his recent music being popular. If he so believe in God then He should ignore criticism and pray for God to forgive his enimies...But instead he choose a religion that teaches people to get even with their enemies as he is living proof of setting the example...What a "Wild World" we live in.

I was that child actually,i was 15 cat was 19, when we parted he told me "don't be a bad girl' because I was pretty wild at the time, so I don't care who don't believe this but I swear it is true..he never says who he writes songs for except when he was seeing patti dabonville who he actually mentions...and also he will not admit to who the songs were about...its top secret with cat..on saying this he was a gentle loving caring soft spoken guy when I knew him ...he still is an amazing man ..but when I knew him I barely knew him as a singer..this was in 1969.he didn't start seeing patti till 1971 ;P
My Dad says he's got photos of the lady that this song was written for. Her name if I recall was Elizabeth and she was stunning. Taken in NY in the very early 70s. The pictures my Dad has of her are wonderful. If anyone knows Cat Stevens personally, he may want to touch base with my Dad.
