Wild World Lyrics

Artist: Cat Stevens
Album: Wild World

Now that I've lost everything to you,
you say you want to start something new,
and it's breaking my heart you're leaving,
baby I'm grieving.

But if you wanna leave take good care,
hope you have a lot of nice things to wear,
but then a lot of nice things turn bad out there.

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,
it's hard to get by just upon a smile.
Oh baby baby it's a wild world.

I'll always remember you like a child, girl.
You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do,
and it's breaking my heart in two,
cause I never want to see you sad girl,
don't be a bad girl,
but if you want to leave take good care,
hope you make a lot of nice friends out there,
but just remember there's a lot of bad and beware,
beware,

Oh baby baby it's a wild world,
it's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh baby baby it's a wild world,
and I'll always remember you like a child, girl.

Baby I love you, but if you wanna leave take good care,
hope you make a lot of nice friends out there,
but just remember there's a lot of bad,
and beware, beware,

oh baby baby it's a wild world,
it's hard to get by just upon a smile.
Oh baby baby it's a wild world,
and I'll always remember you like a child, girl.

I think it would sound excellent with a reggae beat. I love this song...so full of wisdom and simply stated. Not preaching but realizing the cycle continues into infinity. Birth, innocence, life tainted, mistakes made, jadedness, the world.
One love.

Man, this brings back the memories in the early 70s, on my way to San Antonio, going to radio broadcasting school. What a thrill it was to play this song, many times on the radio. This is indeed, a Wild World.....

I'm wondering what you guys would say if Cat Stevens wouldn't be a moslem
by Jasmine on 1/13/2009 10:16pm
To be a Muslim was his destiny, his path. Yusuf Islam would not be the legend he is if he was not so deeply sincere. Don't try to separate Cat Stevens from Yusuf Islam, and say you love one but dislike the other. He is not a hypocrite, so it is ugly to respond with hypocrisy. He did not sell out and be the person others wanted him to be; he preferred to love God over world. You can tell from his songs and lyrics that he was a good man, searching. Now it is obvious that he found his way home, and is an even better man.

by Still Crazy After All These Years on 3/8/2009 9:10am
I was young in the time when these songs were popular. They reflected how young people thought at that time. How far we have come from that way of thinking due to being over run by base cultures. How sweet to have these memories of gentler times...

Oh what a shame that he betrayed his music for the fairytales of religion - any religion!
No this song is NOT by Yusuf Islam. He consciously turned his back on music when he became entrapped in religion.
No, this song is by Cat Stevens, who is - alas - no more.

Eer... I've found this song because of my ex-husband's status with words 'oh baby baby it's a wild world' in russian facebook... When I saw the man, who sings it, I really didn't like him and it seemed to me there's no reason to listen to it, but how I was wrong! This song is f*cking awesome!

Don't mind, it's incurable delirium...

It is sad that so many harp on his personal choice and are surprised that everyone should be happy. Can you all be happy by the song and for the poet who felt such insite. This is what the song is about: rise above the badness to be an honest happy human.

The song is good but Cats in the Cradle (Harry Chapin); Dream (Elvis Presley); Piano Man, We Didn't Start the Fire (Billy Joel); Sweet Baby James, Fire and Rain (James Taylor); Glory Days, Born to Run, Human Touch (Bruce Springsteen); One Day at A Time (Eagles); Imagine, It's All Right, Watching the Wheels (John Lennon) are all excellent song (listen to the lyrics) to mention a few; however, you don't see any Islamic people making comments about these songs. Maybe if they changed their names to "Youssef" something, then they would surge the internet to get coverage...Forget Allah and Praise GOD! Amen.
by by Ken on 04/11/2013 on 4/11/2013 11:40am
Mr. Stevens wrote this song along with many of his other songs that make sense when he was Christian/Catholic and he never sued anyone then; however, now that Mr. Islam is Muslim, I don't recall any of his recent music being popular. If he so believe in God then He should ignore criticism and pray for God to forgive his enimies...But instead he choose a religion that teaches people to get even with their enemies as he is living proof of setting the example...What a "Wild World" we live in.
by RockypointR on 4/30/2013 8:00am
Sad song...my ex dedicated this song to me when we separated.
by Women Are Adults, Not Children on 5/6/2013 1:23pm
I loved this song in the 1970s but nowadays the sexism and condescension just turn my stomach. Think about these lines:

"Hope you have a lot of nice things to wear"

"It's hard to get by just upon a smile"

"I'll always remember you just like a child"

"A lot of nice things turn bad out there"
by Abhishek on 5/7/2013 10:08am
Why bring religion to music?
In Fact, he is a legend all because of music he made, not because of this religion shit.
by By Imtiaz on 05/26/2013 on 5/26/2013 7:09pm
That's the point Abhishek; Yusuf was and never will be a legend, he only became an extrmist through Islam. Mohamed's reference above regarding Dreams by Elvis is something to consider since this song was viewed by over 1billion people around the world before electronic technology was ever born. Listen to the lyrics (Love, Peace and Understanding to co-exist) if Elvis' name was Salim, how many viewers with muslim names would have surged the internet? Abhishek brother, this is the only forum you and I are able to civilly have a discussion without being butchered with a cleaver so I hope you are not pulling one of those INDIAN nonsense by stating your "religion shit".
by rational man on 6/19/2013 11:25am
even without islam there's world war I and II.NAZI, Guns and boms made in USA,Israel, russian. Is there one reason a war cause of Islamt!huh!??open your eyes and minds people.Oil, money, glory!!thats it. You are gem Yusuf..
by Jenna on 8/6/2013 3:21pm
I could see why this woman would leave him: These lyrics are so condescending and patronizing. And "I'll always remember you like a child?" Seriously? Ew!
by norma on 8/19/2013 8:20pm
I was that child actually,i was 15 cat was 19, when we parted he told me "don't be a bad girl' because I was pretty wild at the time, so I don't care who don't believe this but I swear it is true..he never says who he writes songs for except when he was seeing patti dabonville who he actually mentions...and also he will not admit to who the songs were about...its top secret with cat..on saying this he was a gentle loving caring soft spoken guy when I knew him ...he still is an amazing man ..but when I knew him I barely knew him as a singer..this was in 1969.he didn't start seeing patti till 1971 ;P
by John on 9/5/2013 7:48pm
My Dad says he's got photos of the lady that this song was written for. Her name if I recall was Elizabeth and she was stunning. Taken in NY in the very early 70s. The pictures my Dad has of her are wonderful. If anyone knows Cat Stevens personally, he may want to touch base with my Dad.
by Suzi on 11/27/2013 4:15am
This song reminds me of my 18 year old daughter. Ready to go out and conquer the world, thinking she understands the world but is still so nieve. I hope she meets people who are kind. I want her to make good choices.
