Let The River Run Lyrics

Artist: Carly Simon

We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.

Let the river run,
let all the dreamers
wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.

Silver cities rise,
the morning lights
the streets that meet them,
and sirens call them on
with a song.

It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.

We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.

We the great and small
stand on a star
and blaze a trail of desire
through the dark'ning dawn.

It's asking for the taking.
Come run with me now,
the sky is the color of blue
you've never even seen
in the eyes of your lover.

Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.

[guitar]

It's asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.
We're coming to the edge,
running on the water,
coming through the fog,
your sons and daughters.

Let the river run,
let all the dreamers
wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.

es muy bonita, ¿pero de que habla?
by Carles on 7/26/2008 4:42pm

I love this song!!I´m used to listening to it.It´s like me, full of energy and desire day by day.Not to mention Capitalism, for this ruins everything. Let´s think about those who face strong and difficult situations everywhere in the world.kiss

Powerful song! The term "New Jerusalem" is a metaphor for Utopianism (...let all the 'dreamers' wake the nation) - without necessarily saying what that utopian nation would be. It is a call to action - for you to bring your own utopia into being.
In business, can a woman break the 'glass ceiling' without having to act like a man? The movie (Working Girl) answers unapologetically, yes.
It is a song of hope and courage. Thank you Carley Simon.
by Silvia España on 7/12/2010 6:17pm
As well as the lyrics, the music of this song inspire HOPE.
by Roger on 2/12/2011 9:22pm
I'd also like to know who does the guitar solo in the music video, "Let the River Run". Looks a bit like John Cusack to me. Anyone know?
by Susannah in Scotland on 3/9/2011 5:01pm
The words are inspirational. The more I read them the more inspirational they become. I may just ask for the song to be played at my funeral - although I am not planning on going anywhere just yet..............

BELENISTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Me halagan tus comentarios, de verdad. Es cierto que Virginia no se merecía ganar. Iba de víctima...

Watch the opening scene of the movie "Working Girl" (Melanie Griffith &Sigorney Weaver)-this is the theme song-- panoramic view of the New York skyline with Twin Towers intact is heart stopping and makes the lyrics 10 times more meaningful
by vanbraun on 6/28/2012 4:22pm
you know this song as composed br Carly Simon is one of the all time greats. This is so versatile that any good singer makes it sound good. But, when you hear it sung by a great singer, it is magnificient. case in point Leslie Garrett on youtube
by Sofia on 11/19/2012 8:48pm
best. song. ever.
by Barnaby on 2/9/2013 1:35pm
One of my favourite songs of all time! The lyrics put my happiest memories of New York City in my mind whenever I hear it. So glad it won the Oscar for Carly as Best Song, truly well deserved.
