I think that second line should be like this:

Also there should be "Hear what I say" not "Here what I say", but this I'm not sure.

I remember Vikki Carr crying whenever she sang that song, and, quite frankly, it makes me cry when I really think hard about it. Now, mind you, Sonny Bono made us cry with the song, You'd Better Sit Down, Kids," and as sad as that is, I think "With Pen In Hand" wins hands down, two to one, in sadness.
