Gloria Lyrics
Artist: U2
Album: October
I try to sing this song
I...I try to stand up
But I can't find my feet
I try, I try to speak up
But only in you I'm complete
Gloria...in te domine
Gloria...exultate
Gloria...Gloria
Oh Lord, loosen my lips
I try to sing this song
I...I try to get in
But I can't find the door
The door is open
You're standing there
You let me in
Gloria...in te domine
Gloria...exultate
Oh Lord, if I had anything
Anything at all
I'd give it to you
I'd give it to you
Gloria...Gloria...

Comments/Interpretations
i can't believe no one listens to u2's older music anymore. if you ask me, honestly, their new musics isn't all that good. this is a great example of u2's better days...
Awesome song ... literally stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard it way back when in the 80's
Yes, this is definitely one of the top 10 U2 songs of all time....
Brilliant - overtly Christian bands (e.g. The Proclaimers) could never match this for its power and beauty.
People say the album this song is off is officially the least favoured of all. How can they say that?! October is a brilliant album, aswell as the song october (: Long live U2
Totally agree with jamesen17. October's a beautiful album. *chants* Long Live U2!! :)
I was so disappointed they didn't play it when I just saw them (first time live) in Toronto last week. Apparently it used to be a staple of their live act. I can just imagine how good it would be in person, too.
This song, Gloria, was originally recorded on April 14, 1965 by Van Morrison's first band called Them. Just to share some song history with you all.
:)
Emelie, your fact is waaaay wrong. This U2 song is an original, but it is true that U2 have made a cover of Van morrisons Gloria, think is was during the rattle and hum period. But the songs are completly different. Maybe you should study some more of that song history.
awesome! great song
100% awesome. Foootbana, too true.
id fuck this song
I'll echo what Trish Q said. Heard it first in a record shop, just after it was released. Went to counter and asked who it was. 'U2'. 'Who?'. 'U2'. 'Whatever, I'll take a copy please'...
I dont like this song!
Nathan is a gimp but it is a nice song
I'm a older fan.. but u all are so on track when stating this is one of U2's best.. Exultate!
The 1980s were an era When people lied to themselves as entertainment (Reagan, hair metal, AIDS as gay only disease, etc. I lived thru it all and can tell you U2 was one of the few rock bands to tell the truth. Gloria is one of those musical truths.
U2 is popular I think because it has christian type themes without all the preachiness and moral superiority infecting it. A lot of rock appeals to people's lower values which in the end gets tiresome, U2 was / is a breath of fresh air because they tend to appeal to the higher.
Truly one of their best!
Seen the a number of times...in some great venues. Always got the mind and body fired up with this true classic! Agree, the older stuff...that is the "real" U2!
this website is very popular and interesting.
The begining of this songs first word is missing its "When I try to sing this song" & the second verse as well. Comeon get it right. It's not that hard!
V followed U2 as the Irish Super Band since I waz 13!cant get enough of them.Great song!
I believe this thread.. The older the days the more its 'U2'
always in my <3
One has to believe in JesusChrist in order to fully appreciate this song, because it is a worship song to the Lord of Lords, the only one full of glory! As far as newer material, "Magnificent" is right in line.
(to InChrist) i think that as a christian we shouldn't exclude the rest of the world from enjoying this song...maybe it would draw them to the love of a greater power: God's love. I also believe that U2 is not a preachy, christian band. U2 is just Magnificent!!!!! No other words to define them.
its a religious song made in the height of U2!!the 80s`!!!!:Dwhen i got back into singing i demonstrated this song and my dad was like"i <3 that"
An extremely obnoxious song by the world's most pretentious, self-important band. Just a load of shit.
Sean, please explain why you think this rather than throwing an ad hominem bomb which is far too easy to do. Those above have said why they love the song and the band. Could you contribute to the conversation ?
@InChrist - how is a Psalm something that can only be appreciated by someone who believes in Christ? It was written by David for the Jews (and ostensibly for any who would listen) as a prophecy of the Messiah. Therefore, I would say that any and all who would have ears can fully appreciate this song, and those that do might even come to curiosity and look further into it, and perhaps come to a belief. I guess what I am saying is the opposite - that those who might not be believers may in fact hear this song, come to appreciate it, and even become believers.
And this thread officially goes off the rails. As they'd say themselves "it's only rock and roll" ;)
