by Sarah on 10/17/2008 11:03am This song starts off by him letting her go because she found someone else to be with and now shes getting married. "Swallow your pride, make way for the new bride. Holding your tongue, when they call another winner." He is saying he used to be that guy, and now shes moved on. Then he goes on to talk about how he has washed these decks for years, meaning he has worked with her and been with her, he has carried those pails. He has been with her through everything and now shes with someone else. Then he talks about how the captain always goes down with the ship, also meaning if she ever came back or needed him, he would never leave her "his ship." But she is like the wind, you cant control her and she is like the sea, its her nature to be free. this is a great song, i love the lyrics to it!
