Most Cure love songs Robert Smiths writes are for his wife, Mary... The reason why the song is called "Mint Car" is because it refers to Robert's green Maxi car he used to drive when he was young- it was what he drove when they were young, before the Cure took off in 1978. He talks about it in the book Ten Imaginary Years :D
