I Wont Last A Day Without You Lyrics

Artist: The Carpenters

Day after day I must face the world of strangers where I don't belong
I'm not that strong
It's nice to know that there's someone I can turn to who will always care
You're always there

CHORUS
When there's no gettin' over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you

So many times when the city seems to be without a friendly face, a lonely place
It's nice to know that you'll be there if I need you and you'll always smile
It's all worthwhile

CHORUS

Touch me and I end up singin'
Troubles seem to up and disappear
You touch me with the love you're bringin'
I can't really lose when you're near, when you're near

If all my friends have forgotten half their promises, they're not unkind
Just hard to find
One look at you and I know that I could learn to live without the rest
I've found the best

CHORUS

CHORUS

(won't last a day without you, without you)

This song was new when it was played at my Senior Prom in 1976. I can still vividly recall swaying on the dance floor with Julie, and the fragrance of her Pikake lei. The song described exactly what she was to me at the time. This was a time before texting, IM, and cell phones. I had to call with the only phone in our house (a party line at that), but it would only take hearing her say "hello?" for me to feel better. The day after the prom, I ran out to the music store to get the record. They didn't have it on 45, so I paid like $10 for the album, just for that one song. We parted ways, and Julie's life ended tragically a few years later, but I still think of her when I hear this song.
