By The Time I Get To Arizona Lyrics

Artist: Public Enemy
Album: Apocalypse 91

I'm countin' down to the day deservin'
Fittin' for a king
I'm waitin' for the time when I can
Get to Arizona
'Cause my money's spent on
The goddamn rent
Neither party is mine not the
Jackass or the elephant
20.000 nig niggy nigas in the corner
Of the cell block but they come
From California
Population none in the desert and sun
Wit' a gun cracker
Runnin' things under his thumb
Starin' hard at the postcards
Isn't it odd and unique?
Seein' people smile wild in the heat
120 degree
'Cause I wanna be free
What's a smilin' fact
When the whole state's racist
Why want a holiday F--k it 'cause I wanna
So what if I celebrate it standin' on a corner
I ain't drinkin' no 40
I B thinkin' time wit' a nine
Until we get some land
Call me the trigger man
Looki lookin' for the governor
Huh he ain't lovin' ya
But here to trouble ya
He's rubbin' ya wrong
Get the point come along

An he can get to the joint
I urinated on the state
While I was kickin' this song
Yeah, he appear to be fair
The cracker over there
He try to keep it yesteryear
The good ol' days
The same ol' ways
That kept us dyin'
Yes, you me myself and I'ndeed
What he need is a nosebleed
Read between the lines
Then you see the lie
Politically planned
But understand that's all she wrote
When we see the real side
That hide behind the vote
They can't understand why he the man
I'm singin' 'bout a king
They don't like it
When I decide to mike it
Wait I'm waitin' for the date
For the man who demands respect
'Cause he was great c'mon
I'm on the one mission
To get a politician
To honor or he's a gonner
By the time I get to Arizona

I got 25 days to do it
If a wall in the sky
Just watch me go thru it
'Cause I gotta do what I gotta do
PE number one
Gets the job done
When it's done and over
Was because I drove'er
Thru all the static
Not stick but automatic
That's the way it is
He gotta get his
Talin' MLK
Gonna find a way
Make the state pay
Lookin' for the day
Hard as it seems
This ain't no damn dream
Gotta know what I mean
It's team against team
Catch the light beam
So I pray
I pray everyday
I do and praise jah the maker
Lookin' for culture
I got but not here
From jah maker
Pushin' and shakin' the structure
Bringin' down the babylon
Hearin' the sucker
That make it hard for the brown
The hard Boulova
I need now
More than ever now
Who's sittin' on my freedah'
Opressor people beater
Piece of the pick
We picked a piece
Of land that we deservin' now
Reparation a piece of the nation
And damn he got the nerve
Another niga they say and classify
We want too much
My peep plus the whole nine is mine
Don't think I even double dutch
Here's a brother my attitude hit 'em
Hang 'em high
Blowin' up the 90s started tickin' 86
When the blind get a mind
Better start and earn while we sing it
Now
There will be the day we know those down and who will go

you know john mccain voted against mlk day back in the day him and cheney in his home state too
by Me on 4/24/2010 12:06am
It's interesting to compare Arizona's reluctance to commemorating MLK day with the new immigration law that was passed in the state.
by Me2 on 4/25/2010 1:30pm
Thats what i was thinking too , thats why i came to look at these lyrics... i guess its not the first time Arizona is picked up in the racist radar.
by oldhat on 4/26/2010 1:00am
That new immigration law they just passed reminded me of this song. Same old Arizona.
by Azteca Maize on 4/26/2010 9:18pm
I'm with oldhat! I came looking for the lyrics for the same reason. Some people still live in the stone ages! F@&K the AZ!!!
by Mr.EPluribus on 4/28/2010 2:34am
C'mon, don't drink the Kool-Aid. There's nothing racist about expecting people, of any color, to obey the laws on the books. Until we make it easier to get into the country legally, why not make it harder to discourage anyone, again regardless of their country of origin, people from coming here illegally? Still, all hail the rhyme animal, D -- PE#1!
by Spizal on 4/28/2010 3:10pm
Mr.EPluribus It's not about drinking the Kool-Aid it's about racial profiling. The target is illegal Mexicans, I live in AZ and fit the bill so now I am expected to carry documantation proving that I am a U.S. citizen or face being arrested because an officer pulling me over dosen't believe me. Think about it, it's a direct violation of our constitutional rights.
by Tp on 4/28/2010 5:20pm
Nope, you're right there isnt anything racist about expecting people to obey the law.

There is something racist about a law that makes it a requirement for law enforcement to racially profile people, and require them to carry papers to prove they are a citizen.

Do you honestly believe that this will be used against any white people, or that mexican americans or mexican immigrants wont be singled out?

If you do then you are either extremely naive or suffering from a massive case of cognitive dissonance.
by el beasto on 4/28/2010 7:17pm
No, there aint nothing racist about expectin people to obey the law. But PASSING a law that GIVES the law reason to put their thumb down on those who look like theyr'e from a bloodline they want on the other side of the border? That's racist, chumpass, p(*&*y xenophobic republican chicken sh*t.
by Zebra on 5/4/2010 1:30pm
First this was about the PE song... Arizona took a vote and passed MLK day in 1993, a few years late if you ask me but fast forward 17 years and illegal immigration is a National travesty... obey the law, carry your DL, don't commit crimes and any color can live in AZ. I live in AZ, however drive down some streets and you would think this was Mexico... this is the US and you should be proud to be living in a country that has fair wages, the ability to make a better life for yourself, but you need to do it LEGALLY, period!!!!
by some pist on 5/4/2010 8:13pm
yo beast! how bout now??
by J to the L on 5/5/2010 8:44pm
I too looked up the lyrics to this song due to the whole immigration situation. I don't think there is anything wrong with the AZ law...it only models the federal law, which requires ppl to carry their green cards at all times. There is no violation of any constitutional rights...carry your id and if you're not here illegally you won't have a problem if you get pulled over!! Racial profiling my ass! Most of the cops are of latino descent in AZ!

by Tito Burrito on 5/7/2010 10:52pm
Arizona, what would you know about paying a fair wage? What would cost you 100 dollars in groceries would cost over 350 if we paid union wages to agricultural labor. You don't know what paying a fair wage is about. You are not going after the Republican party who turned a blind eye on their partners in big business who are truly responsible for the near collapse of our economic system. Now you idiots need somebody to blame without busting those of your own. Hypocrites!
by von Mises on 5/31/2010 10:54pm
Fair wage?
A fair wage is whatever you can get for your work. If no one pays you a "fair wage," then you're the one with unrealistic expectations. Maybe it's time to do some work that's in line with the wages you want.

The reason AZ is being aggrressively spoken of these days is that the reality isn't in line with the legislation. The institutions tasked with enforcing the Federal laws aren't funded to perform their duties. This is intentional

The reason AZ is being aggrressively spoken of these days is that the reality isn't in line with the legislation. The institutions tasked with enforcing the Federal laws aren't funded to perform their duties. This is intentional, so when it appears that the legislation is going to be enforced, those who seek to undermine it are frustrated and angry.

Only enforcement will demonstrate the truth. Then, we can effectively decide if we should nationally enforce this policy. It's silly to debate it before the results are in. The thing will speak for itself, now let's do it.
by Arizona Bum Rush on 6/13/2010 11:59pm
We should just let the Mexicans bum rush AZ.
by Xasthur on 6/18/2010 6:20pm
The fact of the matter is the US took over half of Mexico but that's a long time ago. The US destroyed Mexico's economy with NAFTA in 1994 thus the huge increase in illegals. The US flooded the Mexican market with US agribusiness products which are tax payer subsidized. Millions of people were thrown out of work and off the land. The powers that be are trying to herd them into maquiladoras, the assembly slave labor plants. Well guess what? Some Mexicans refuse to go down with a boot on their neck.

Arizona will eventually comply with legitimate public outcry if the legitimate public cries loud enough. It is not coincidence that so many of us hit this site to see if they connected somehow with the present condition. Shalom

Im from az and its true there are rscist people, but there are every where, there is a loot more republicans then democrats but dont look down onmy state cause a few people racist
by Arizona Arrogance on 9/21/2010 10:14pm
When Arizona tried to ban Martin Luther King Day, we boycotted them and they lost their chance to host the superbowl. Now, they're trying to pass racist unconstitutional laws. As far as the rest of the United States is concerned, Arizona could drop off the map and we'd hardly notice. Not that we don't have grandparents who live there and honestly wish them all the best, but the place is a desert and the only way it will be of any value in the water scarcity of the next century is if we rig the whole state up with solar panels. Arizona needs to get over itself and its xenophobic attitudes.

More True today than ever. public officials have recognized that AZ HAS BECOME A MECCA FOR RACISM & HATRED....Too late. Violence isn't the answer, but this is expression through art . It's not a church leader, politician, or political "news" group.

Unbelievable powerful statement. Chuck D rules.

@Kyle Denny...umm that was random. Any ideas relative to this comment string?
by J Smalls on 7/28/2012 3:28am
Man whoever translated this sucks big ass monkey balls. People should really revise the lyrics carefully before posting them up
by DMz on 8/2/2012 4:19am
These lyrics were clearly copied and pasted directly from the official PE site. Not quite the same that made it in the track it seems. People should research before they post.

It's great when metal heads give props to P.E .
by Mr Man on 7/26/2013 3:23pm
Wow, the ignorance abounds. It's obvious that none of you has ever spent time in overseas. Go hang out in another country for awhile and then come back and complain about our the way we treat immigrants.
