First time i heard this song was when i once more had heavy trouble with my parents with age of 16, and it was a night in april and snow fell down. Now i'm 40 years of age and listen to this song every time i have to say goodbye to any of my beloved ones. It makes me deal better with love & dead. Thank you Prince.

The last line .. "Love it isn't love until it's passed" sounds and looks very much to me like "Love it isn't love until it's had" when you see the video of Prince singing it live. It's more poetic to me like that too.

I have heard the same sentiment many times. However, the thought is misunderstood. This song is about the love of a friend who was struggling with thoughts of suicide. Hence the civil war, between life and death. Tracy was unafraid of death, seeing it as an extension of life. I�m not gay and I have male friends that I feel this strongly about�.

thanks, prince. for writing such an incredible song that sums up what exactly what the pain is like when you lose someone you love, and how they feel when they don't want to carry on, this song makes me hope that one day, i may find the people i lost that i loved, and that maybe there is something after this perfectly imperfect world. The things that you most love come and go too quickly. The only true battle there is, is the battle against yourself.

My absolute favourite Prince song. Someone I knew lost a close close friend in April and it snowed the day they passed. This song is so resonant for me. Thank you for helping me through tough times - your music just seemed to speak to me. RIP Prince Roger Nelson.

The last word in the last line is "passed"...NOT "past"...as in Love is meant to spread around and "passed" along...
