Shake The Sugar Tree Lyrics

Artist: Pam Tillis
Album: Homeward Looking Angel

Love you're gettin' lazy
You're forgettin' to give me
Sweet sugar words that I want to hear
You've been neglectin' me
You know jealousy, it is bitter as a green spring berry

You're like fruit from a fickle vine
You turn sweet in the nick of time
Love, you only come alive when you're losin' me
And it's a childish game
I've got to shake you up just to wake you up
To make you love me

Chorus:

I'll shake the sugar tree
Till I feel your love falling
All around me
You've got to tend to what you've planted
And if you take my love for granted baby
I'll shake the sugar tree

Another night and you're sleepin'
I'm awake and I'm dreamin'
Oh honey 'bout the way you used to be
A little time's gone by
Now do you think that I'm content
With the cookin' and the payin' of the rent
No, I wanna know if your love's all spent

Chorus

I've got to raise some commotion
Before you show me
Some real emotion

I like the metaphor used in this song. The figure of speech is so creative. It gets the point across. Although I don't understand why a person would want to "raise some commotion they show you some real emotion?" In my opinion if your not shown "some real emotion" then why bother? Anyhow, it's a creative song written.

The correct lyrics are "just like fruit from a fickle vine", not "you're"

another lyric correction:
"the way that it used to be" rather than "the way you used to be"

I think this song is meant to help us women in average marriages where after many years our husbands forget to show us the love they used to capture our hearts. And it tells us that is isnt only his job to make that happen, you gotta shake the sugar tree and do your part.
Grrrreat Song. Stay married people. It is for the good of society, children and the world. People need to stop being selfish unless the relationship is abusive its probably just the way marriage is. If you cant take it stay single.

Its saying that, she has to fight with him and be on the verge of leaving before he shows that he loves her. And if she has to fight with him to get some emotion from him then thats what she will do.
