Still The One Lyrics

Artist: Orleans

Still The One
Orleans
words and music by John Joseph Hall and Johanna D. Hall

- #5 hit in 1976

We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear

You're still the one -- I want to talk to in bed
Still the one -- that turns my head
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

You're still the one -- that makes me laugh
Still the one -- that's my better half
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one -- that makes me strong
Still the one -- I want to take along
We're still having fun, and you're still the one (yes you are)

Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new

You're still the one -- that I love to touch
Still the one -- and I can't get enough
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You're still the one -- who can scratch my itch
Still the one -- and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You are still the one -- that makes me shout
Still the one -- that I dream about
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one, yeah still the one
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

Learned to play this song on the guitar and leaned the lyrics as well. Surprised my wife on our 40 aniversery by getting on stage, with friends who have an oldies band, and were playing for us that night, and sang it to her in front of all our friends. Really knocked her socks off. I was actually pretty good.
by Paula on 8/23/2008 12:15pm
I have the same comment as Johanna, it makes me smile everytime I hear the song. Lots of precious memories, my husband and I just celebrated our 30th and this is our song.

She is gone for three years
she loved it when i dedicated it to
her on the radio.
She is Still The One

I love her,and i always will.
by technical on 5/3/2009 3:03pm
@cole : the earth is only 25000 miles around the equator, so if you really are 20000 miles away, look the other way and you only be 5000 miles away! ;)
Of course, when in love a mile feels like a thousand .... :)
by Greg Hajduk on 8/4/2009 6:29am
I included this song on a birthday video for my wife of 30 years, Joanne! It says it all.
by the cheshire cat (she will know) on 8/18/2009 12:45am
back in the day in high school in 1975 one evening when my "first love" told me that "this song reminds me so much of our relationship, that it should be "our song", not a day goes by that I don't think about that special girl, even 30 + years later, a whole lot of water has gone under "the bridge" but she will always be : Still the One! gone but not forgotten! S.L.K. A piece of my heart will always be missing!!

My husband died in 2001. We had been married for 44 years and had planned to dance to this song at our 50th anniversary. Unfortunately, we didn't make it that far, but he's "Still the One"
by Tricia on 10/9/2009 8:16pm
My family is going to sing this to our folks for their 70th anniversary... love this song... they managed to be apart during WWII for 2 years and that time apart made them more committed to each other... I think this song says it all for them... not that they know any rock songs... lol. a little surprise for the 90 year olds.
by collette on 10/23/2009 11:51am
This song belonged to me and my highschool sweetheart . After 29 yrs apart we got back together and married . We were married 3 years and he was killed in a tragic accident . On the back of his headstone I had engrved the song has ended but the melody lingers on STILL THE ONE
by Hannah on 11/14/2009 5:25pm
I love oldies music but this one is my favourite
by Lou on 3/7/2010 8:21am
I love this song, but I don't understand how the second line fits in. "Sometimes I never want to see you again". If you're still the one, why would say such a thing?
by Me on 3/12/2010 6:23pm

What I love about these lyrics by Orleans is that they encapsulate everything that marriage should be about. Sometimes married couples do not always get along, but just like a wedding ring never ends, that love should never end.
by karen on 6/20/2010 9:54pm
One of the best songs ever written about lasting love !!! This song says it all. We've been married 29 years and he's still the one! I could listen to it everyday.
by GGNona on 8/9/2010 4:12pm
We have been married 48 years come November, and Lou, if you don't understand the second line, you haven't been in love- cause the one that causes the most frustration, is the one you love the most- at least it works that way for us, and were headed toward 50 years- But that is how your able to laugh at yourself about the little things and that's why were still having fun
4 sure 4sure- He's still the one!
by cheryl on 9/8/2010 10:48pm
january 22, 1973 -the "schoolhouse" in rochester, ny - had so much fun that night and later that day - my son was born! although that "special love" in my life is gone - I still find myself humming the song.

35 years and he is still the one. Agree with Karen - one of the best about lasting love. Making it through the good and bad.

We drive OTR straight truck and often spend 24/7 together for 6-8 weeks at a time. Yes sometimes I never want to see him again (for about 5 minutes)! When I get home this song is on my favorite CD and I play it over and over in my car. It will be 40 yrs this month; we're still having fun, and he's still the one!

my first husband rarely listened to main stream music, thats why it surprised me when he said that this song is how he saw us.It always makes me happy when l hear it....
by Mary on 10/6/2011 2:37pm
Whit W ok I look at your face everyday, but l never saw it untill l went away : although l saw you everyday it wasn't untill l went away that when l realized how much you meant to me and at times l took you for granted All l wanted was to go somewhere different. After l got there l realized that l was lost without you where ever l went l want to be with you because you are part of me.It wasn't where l was it was who l was with made me happy.

My girlfriend and I have been together for two years, I just know we'll be together forever. And although I don't think my love of classic music will ever rub off on her, she'll always be the one.
by Helen on 3/8/2012 2:57pm
My husband and I have been married for 34 years and this song could have been written for us! I just love it! It seems like there are a few of us still out there who's partner is "still the one"! :0)
by Darryl on 3/28/2012 5:26pm

by Matt on 5/25/2012 11:06am
I just heard this song and had to look up who I should hold responsible for violating my ears. I thought the song couldn't get any worse and then I read the actual lyrics. Absolutely terrible. One of the cheesiest, corny, bland songs ever written.
by Nancy on 6/7/2012 12:13pm
This is such a great song!! I printed it up to give to my husband along with the card for our 30th Anniversary! I love this song & have since I first heard it...many moons ago!
by Me on 9/4/2012 8:59am
This is one of the very few songs I like that was made before I was born, great song. Though, I think it's too great- to be used as a burger king commercial, kinda degrades/insults it if you ask me.
by Me on 9/4/2012 9:02am
Also, it sounds more like a song talking about an old friend, and I'd like to use it that way somehow if I could, the only thing is the "talk to you in bed" verse, though I have had sleepovers with male friends before, so maybe they can let it slide
by LakeRat on 9/26/2012 12:34pm
Geez you people are lame. This song is EVERY couple's "special" song. Not just yours. Might as well say we both drink water, so water is our beverage.
by Barbara on 10/8/2012 12:08am
A really wonderful tune. A classic love song. Music that want to make you dance; and lyrics that honestly and accurately describe many wonderful components of love. Great harmonies and musicianship. Well done, Orleans.

She's still the one even after over 35 years. 
by Andy on 11/28/2012 3:20am
Of course it's every couples special song. That's what makes it timeless (and ya, a little sappy, but that's ok) It makes people smile because they relate. It describes in a simple way a classic long term love story.
by Ddfurlong on 1/20/2013 1:26am
Ooh yeah, the second line makes the whole song. Married 36 years, that's what it's all about. The sweet song of a little bit of bitter and whole lot of sweet!
by John on 1/23/2013 2:45am
My wife and I divorced 14 years ago and she's still the one. We have been talking for a couple of months about giving it another try and this song says it all.

I always crank up the radio when I hear this song. My husband of 40 years laughs because he knows how special this song is to me (us). We always play it at parties and get togethers. It doesn't seem to matter how old your are, everyone knows the words.

This song was one that my husband and I would sing to, if heard, on our way home from a night out. We loved it and truly felt every word. He passed last year one month shy of our 37th anniversary. He will always Still Be the One, and my eyes well with tears every time I hear it.
by maxine pickard-pivovaroff on 10/10/2013 11:25am

this year my husband and I will celebrate 50 years of marriage. we have sung this song to each other for many years and have kidded about sing it at our 50th party. don't know if that will happen or not, but we're still the one for each other.
by Judy on 6/11/2014 9:18am
Tomorrow we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of our wedding day, although our love story began five years earlier when he was 17 and I was going on 15, and he's still "the one". No big fuss, just dinner with our daughters, because the anniversary is just another day as we continue to make each other's world.
by Woolbull on 7/12/2014 3:32pm
This like so many other folks is/was our song. After 48 years she is no long with me. On her headstone is, "You're still the one that's my better half, we're still having fun and you're still the one." Not really morbid; just makes me laugh and remember very very good times.
by Julie on 8/15/2014 6:00pm

We love this song as our song but didn't know all the words. While in car, we decided to request this song to be played at our daughter's upcoming wedding and wondered about the specifc words. Just as I found this site, song came on radio! Had not previously heard words to this verse.
Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new
Made us both cry.
