Tourette's Lyrics

Artist: Nirvana
Album: In Utero

Moderate Rock

May day, every day, my day
Could've had a heart attack, my heart
We don't know anything, my heart
We all want something fair, my heart

Out of town, out of sight, is my heart
Queen of lies, today, my heart
One more on the phone, my heart
One more at the door of my heart

Mean heart
Cold heart(7x)

by D: on 7/6/2008 12:57am
Hard to understand because it was made up on the spot....
by . on 7/14/2008 4:56am
Most of his lyrics were about nothing at all, he would say, 'I used to sit there & write down any crap that came into my head' that's what I love about Cobain, doesn't give a shit about lyrics, but still makes it sound good, but this of course you have something in the way, which is a bunch of lyrics about anything, but with real meaning.
by kurt jr. friend on 7/15/2008 11:52am
this is one of my fav songs
by me 2 on 7/17/2008 5:08pm
how is it pointless?
by nirvanafrik [youtube] on 7/28/2008 6:22pm
i found out, that Tourette, is the last name of the guy who found out the Tourette Disorder. i think the name of the song could help to understand the meaning of the lyrics, or kurt just chose a random title for it..
by garyduv3 on 8/1/2008 7:31pm
the song makes perfect sense (my heart) is a person with tourettes audible tic thats why it's repeated over and over. may day every day is about the stress that comes with T.S and the sometimes overwhelming tics.could of had a heart attack is also related to the statistical probibility of T.S. compared to haert attack which is about the same odds both also being hereditary.we know nothing is about T.S. has no cure and little is found in research of the nurilogical disorder.we want something fair is about equal rights for people with sometimes dibilitating T.S. hard to keep a job with uncontrolable screaming and cursing or touching other people.the rest of the song is about social seclusion and tryng to run away and peoples judmental behavior misunderstanding T.S. and people with it COLD HEART MEAN HEART...................
by KCS on 8/3/2008 12:23am
I think he named it tourretes because well... listen to the song man... Sounds like he was screaming and spazzing into the microphone...
by Cameron on 8/8/2008 3:34am
The First version which was meant to be a one off was called ' The Eagle Has Landed ', They did it for bootleggers. Watch reading 92. They then changed the name with different lyrics, and placed on In Utero.
by bs on 9/24/2008 3:02am
by Kurdt D Kobain on 9/24/2008 3:07am
C'mon we all know Kurt belted out random lyircs sometimes. You're treading down the path of dispair trying to figure it out. Music came first to that guy. Words & meanings last.So just rock out to it.

lol i love this song and listen 2 it like every day and i finally know whats hes screamin about. Courtneys a b****
by kurt cobain kid on 10/29/2008 7:16am
hay . your fuckin retarded cause most of his lyrics make fuckin good sense asshole like in all apologize when he say "what should i say ,every one is gay" refers back to his mtv intervue when he said "my best freind in school was gay but im not gay i might be bie but not gay but i wish i was gay just to piss off homophobes " or in penny royal tea when he list the ingrediants to penny royal tea it makes sense pennyroyal tea is either him trying to comit suicide or its a drug so listen to in bloom ass hole if u dont no what it means screw you.curt cobain kid

by courtney love on 11/7/2008 1:25am
pennyroyal tea is commonly used to induce abortion or menses OR to settle the stomach.

i think its fair to say some of his lyrics had meaning, some were just random crap...!
no need to freak out, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one. dont act like an angry dumb shit taking shit too seriously and searching for meaning in everything all your life! enjoy the music and rock out!!!!!
by ASHLEY MAJOR on 11/19/2008 3:10am
Every song kurt cobain ever uttered has changed my life.
by max on 11/24/2008 10:52pm
i think every song kurt ever wrote had incredibly deep meaning to him, but half of the time i don't think there's any point in trying to figure out the meanings, cause the only person they would make sense to would be kurt himself.
by jedidiah on 12/13/2008 2:53pm
I love this song it's one of their best in my opinion and by the way In Bloom was about his hate for rednecks.
by Taylor on 12/18/2008 3:25pm

by well... on 3/9/2009 3:06pm
whoever says this song is pointless obviously can't read into it very well. you probably shouldn't be listening to Nirvana anyway. GTFO kthxbye
by nj on 3/19/2009 1:31am
This is one of my favorite tracks from the live album. My first copy of In Utero I got from my parents on cassette not too long ago, actually. It's kinda funny how you can further realize the meanings of works like these as you get older. As far as In Utero goes, tracks like "Scentless Apprentice", "Milk It", and "Tourettes" could give the unprepared listener a heart attack. Bottom line: any artist searching for what it means to suffer for your work (i.e. to love it) needs to give this and the rest of "side 2" a listen.
by Tiffany on 3/23/2009 9:07am
He read he had tourettes and it affected him...end of story. He rules.
by me on 4/13/2009 4:45am
hey kurt cobain kid
1. its all apologies not apologize
2. you cant spell for shit
3. 'what else can i say' are the lyrics
4. he pretended to be gay to piss off homophobes, not wish he was one
5. penny royal tea is used to induce abortion, in aromatherapy and to settle stomachs which any nirvana fan she know he struggled with.
6. screw YOU
7. you spelt kurt wrong, its Kurt or Kurdt
by Cory on 5/21/2009 7:09pm

I got my name from a misspelling on one of his albums. I love nirvana and if you listen to the song u can hear the lyrics clearly.
by randall on 11/4/2009 4:21pm
actually the song was originally called "the eagle has landed" when it was performed at the reading festival, and for the "in utero" album they called it "tourettes" because he made up the lyrics right on the spot and he screamed it almost as if he had tourettes...
by Derrick on 11/26/2009 12:04pm
Just reading peoples comments I've learned more about kurt!!! I love this song and I play the power cords as F A A# F# and it sounds awesome!!! R.I.P. Kurt Cobain

by jamie on 1/23/2010 6:06pm
is what in utero book says he's saying...dont wake up to this song!
by Taylor on 1/26/2010 11:01pm
You all need to shut the fuck up. Everything has meaning. Whether he did it just because he could or if it has deeper meaning. Regardless, none of you dicks will ever know. Songs have different meanings to anyone who listens too it. So get a fucking life. I doubt he ever intended to start a fucking arguement on who knows more about "Kurt Cobain" and HIS music than the next person. Infact I do beleive that's what he NEVER wanted. But, I see you are all true fans. Haha.
by Myri on 2/24/2010 3:38pm

by Romeo on 2/17/2011 3:59pm
Lyrics ain't hard to understand if you know what he is talking about, I'll help you understand it. First of all, song is about Tourette's syndrome which causes uncontrollable responses on the brain resulting in involuntary sounds.
"May day, every day, is my day" People with this syndrome have a lot of probabilities of having a heart attack.
"We don't know anything, in my heart" We know very little about this syndrome, of course we don't know a solution.
"We all want something fair, my heart" As almost all people with any disease/syndrome, they suffer discrimination.
"Hey" Is the representation of the involuntary sounds.
Second verse is about how it happens anywhere, anytime.
"Mean heart, Cold heart" People don't really care if they hurt, they laugh for whatever is their reason.
Think about it, Most of the songs people think are none-sense are really difficult to interpret, but not impossible.
by Jackh219 on 3/27/2011 7:13am
The guy who figured this out is a genius, I would've never guessed he said "moderate rock"
by BlackHoliday on 8/19/2011 11:43pm
The song is supposed to be interpreted how you want to interpret it. Kurt didnt make his songs pertentious for that reason.
by Gonza on 9/4/2011 1:17pm

you people just don't get it.
by YouMust on 9/12/2011 9:34pm
Omg guys, you should really look for information before saying anything. The meaning of thw song is in the title itself, how difficult can it be? The song is about Tourette's Syndrome, wich makes you have unvoluntary tics, specially random shouts. The song is just about it; the first verse is about social reclusion (May day every day, is my day) and the increased probabilities of having a heart attack, and also about how little we know about the syndrome and how people who suffer it want to be treated in a better way. Now, on the second verse, it just kinda describes the Syndrome, with "One more at the phone, one more at the door" he is saying just how unpredictable the tics are. By the way, the screaming and the "Hey!" are just like if he had the Syndrome. Of course, "Mean heart, cold heart" shouldn't need any explanation, but they are also about how people attack things or people just because they are different. Voila?
by Qotsa41 on 9/24/2011 9:51pm
This is an awesome song, performed by an f**king awesome band!!!
Every time I listen to it, I just release whatever negativity I have bound up inside! Who knows what Kurt's intentions were when he wrote and performed this... Even if you have no flipping knowledge of Tourette's..the freedom in this song is briliant!!
by kid-in-red on 1/3/2012 10:00am
it doesnt matter the lyrics, Kurt focused on music, and channeled his anger thru it. he didnt care about the lyrics so much. he just wrote down words that sounded good and channeled what he was feeling. "on a plain" was written as extra track and was written in 5 minutes
by Umů on 1/3/2012 9:06pm
The song isn't intended to have any lyrics. It's supposed to be gibberish. That's why it's called "Tourette's".
by nicholsjoshua15(YouTube) on 1/26/2012 3:53pm
Maybe the song has meaning and maybe it doesn't. All I know is it is a great song to fill up the time between birth and death. It does what Mr. Cobain wanted it to do.
by Abhi on 2/16/2012 3:59am
What a delieverance to some of the grunge freaks like me. Will always treasure nd cherish the legacy left behind by the most celebrated grunge-man of all times, Kurt Donald Cobain.
by Mister Magma on 3/1/2012 8:05pm
i have the cd at home but all it says in the lyrics booklet is culk, tish, chips
by Nirvana on 3/14/2012 7:02am
You're an idiot.I won't even name who said this but you have no knowledge ofTourette's Syndrome. The man who the disorder is named after is Steven de la tourette and there people with tourette' s don't always curse which are called vocal tics . Sometimes people with Tourette's have what is called a localized tic which can be any involuntary movement, but most of the time it's just excessive blinking or something like that or a constant cough. It can be anything really, but most of the time it's mild. And where did you get the part about having to touch people? I've never in my life seen that. Kurt Cobain had tourette' syndrome or why else would he have wrote about it? Everybody on here did their research and was considerate before posting . T.y. Except for the idiot who said people with Tourette's sexually harass people.
by Nirvana on 3/14/2012 7:10am
Sorry, the man who tourette's syndrome was named after was Gilles de tourette and he was a physician .before they named the disorder after him the disorder was called Saint Vitus dance .God knows why it's called that.
by cold on 4/2/2012 7:36pm
ok Me up there the song is called Pennyroyal Tea. And for god fucking sakes stop being a douche, like end of story fuck, you're kinda gay

..Whats the point of finding meaning? doesn't change the fact that we're all gonna die..
by Courtneykilledkurt on 6/5/2012 12:43pm
This song is awesome and yeah he always said the melody comes first, lyrics are secondary and he had said he wrote whatever came to his head but i think he just didnt want to seem like he was bragging about writing deep poetry and he didnt want to seem like he was trying to be a big shot
by lucas on 6/6/2012 9:26pm
this song is sung in gibberish. it has no lyrics.
by poop on 6/26/2012 10:55am
considering he made the lyrics up on the spot, i don't think it's suppose to make any sense.
by Liv on 8/18/2012 5:45pm

by This is Bob on 9/4/2013 5:54pm
For those who are wondering, the song lyrics cannot be based in everyday reality. They are something more abstract... like an idea (but an artistical and meaningful one). I hope this helps.
