It is not really a horrible song. It is really a love song. A love song not about "lovers" but about two best friends, a "Bonnie and Clyde" sort of friendship. Not necessarily about hurting, but about long night chats and comradeship that two people have about "them and us" more like... A close chat between friends about how it is us against the rest of the world and then conquer-ship!
I am the Deanna in the song. The lead singer is a weirdo perv who won't leave me alone. We grew up living next door and he would leave dead animals on my doorstep. He told me he wrote this and the only thing worse than the lyrics is his awful voice.
NICK CAVE IS AWESOME!!! You guys just don't know good music.....Saw him last night at the Hollywood Bowl and he performed this song....it was beautiful and amazing and everything that is expected from a great live performance.
