There is a term among devotees of certain s&m practices...known as "flying" but also sometimes called "melting away"....it's about having an out of body experience...I wonder if that has any meaning here, or if I am reading too much into it? For instance "transformation from flesh to spirit"--perhaps that just refers to an out-of-body experience--temporary state, rather than actual death? Does anyone have a hypothesis?
