The song it`s just perfect. It`s intention is not to lead you opinion towards any side regarding God. It just synthesizes the reality in just few lyrics. Today you acts in a way that is seen sinful and you feel good. The next day something bad happens. If you are religious you connect the two things ... If you are not you just see nature taking it`s course.

The singer in the song is actually Vera Hall an African Amrican folk singer, she released 'Trouble so hard' in 1937. The lyrics of 'Play' are based on songs derived from gospel and folk songs. He doesn't sing the songs, they are edited versions of old songs, Moby makes the music.
