How Do You Sleep ? Lyrics

Artist: John Lennon
Album: Imagine

So Sgt. Pepper took you by surprise
You better see right through that mother's eyes
Those freaks was right when they said you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?
You live with straights who tell you you was king
Jump when your momma tell you anything
The only thing you done was yesterday
And since you're gone you're just another day
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

A pretty face may last a year or two
But pretty soon they'll see what you can do
The sound you make is muzak to my ears
You must have learned something in all those years
Ah, how do you sleep?
Ah, how do you sleep at night?

In this song Jonh Lennon has spilled a great amount of hatred against Paulīs attittude on Beatles split in 1970.
by William Teixeira on 12/27/2008 11:06am
This was a composition created to annoy Paul MacCartney.

This song was made by John Lennon to show his anger towards Paul McCartney. At first, John fibbed about who the song was about, stating that it was about him, not Paul McCartney. Then, he told the truth, that it was really about Paul. The lyrics in the song clearly state that it was a attack on Paul("Those freaks was right when they said, you was dead", a myth that Paul McCartney was dead because he walked across Abbey Road in bare feat) and ("Jump when your momma tell you anything," also another attack on McCartney, because Paul's mother died in the 1950's.)

John Lennon was pure genious. That doesn't mean Paul was bad, he was a genious too. I lik e John better then Paul, but I have to say this song was pretty mean.

the only thing you did was yesterday should be capitalized because John is referring to the song Yesterday! What perfect lyrics! john was the master and it sucks hes gone, he's still be writing this beautiful, poignant stuff today!

A nastry response to McCartney's Too Many People, which took a slightly kinder dig at Lennon. McCartney responded to this with Let Me Roll It. Which is a good way to end any feud. :)

You're a mad man, John.
by frida on 10/23/2009 6:05am
John was just mad because Paul sued the rest of them when Beatles split up. Later, when John understood why Paul did what he did, he said that the song was about himself because he felt ashamed. At least they weren't mad at each other when John died.. Unlike John and George x( may they be friends in peace in heaven.

This song was realesed in 1970 in the Imagine album, John still was pretty upset about The Beatles breakup and specially towards to Paul because he sued The Beatles to be able to get some money back and get rights in Apple Corps back then in 1968, the band officially broke up in middle 1969, hard times in deed specially for Paul the others were not very affected and John simply didn't gave a sh** of what was going on, i love John and his work is a super genius but he was kinda mean sometimes.....

Just wanted to add, "another day" is a solo song by paul
by Larry on 10/8/2010 9:46pm
John is basically saying The Beatles are no more, its over, in response to Paul's innuendo that they might get back together and that it was Yoko's fault they were having problems. And he's also saying he basically was the Beatles, since the only thing Paul did was "Yesterday". Its hard to argue with that.

Except that 99% of the Beatles songs were composed by Lennon/McCartney. And McCartney wrote many other songs such as Helter Skelter. They were a great song writing team.

How can this song lie along Imagine and its message of peace...
by Bill on 5/12/2011 11:59am
All the Beatles were great, but look who had the best career after they sp;it. Paul clearly won all battles.
by Tim on 7/10/2011 11:41pm
Actually Bill, George's solo album All things must pass went 6 x's platinum, more then an of the rest of the Beatles solo albums, Also Ringo made the most money with his single your sixteen

Polly. Did you make it past 3rd grade because you write like you haven't. Your knowledge of the Beatles is even worse.
by Joe on 4/19/2012 3:15pm
This song is anger towards Faul not Paul. "Those freaks was right when they said you was dead
The one mistake you made was in your head" refering to the plastic surgery mistakes which are obvious to the most devote Paul fans.
by McCartneyFan on 6/14/2012 2:56am
Well, I don't like it at all...I mean not long ago I was fan of John but now it all changes.Paul is better than John - his music is beautiful, his voice's tender, he plays better than John,etc...So I'm against the song.
I'm agree with Bill.

fuck everybody, every single beatle is better that anyone
by adam on 8/15/2012 1:45am

by mingo on 11/8/2012 9:01pm
john was a genious,so that lyric, is terryfic
by tracynpregan on 11/19/2012 2:16am
He wrote this to Paul because he is dead. Died in a car crash. His impostor's facial features are different.
by Barry Hinton on 8/25/2013 3:18pm
John, after "I buried Paul", and the "Strawberry Field Hype", wrote this because he was tired of Paul taking credit for the songs and band's success. Paul will ALWAYS live in John's shadow. Paul learned enough from John to make it on his own, but had Paul never met John, you'd have never heard of Paul....

If you take some time to really get familiar with how paul mccartney actually looked like until 1966, I mean really use your eyes - and then compare with pictures of paul from for example his Wings-days, you should come to see that those two men are NOT the same persons. They don't look the same AT ALL! It'll require some work, but if you look very close at enough pictures of them and there are so many, it can become obvious that They are not the same two people, I'm sorry but I'm a big Beatles fan and I don't like faul....
