Margaritaville (With Lost Verse) Lyrics
Artist: Jimmy Buffett
Album: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
Nibblin on spnge cake, watchin the sun bake
All of those tourists covered with oil
Strummin my six string on my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp, they're beginning to boil
Wastin away again in Margaritaville
Searchin for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame
But I know it's nobody's fault
Don't know the reason I stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo
But it's a real beauty, a Mexican cutie
How it got here I haven't a clue
Wastin away again in Margaritaville
Searchin for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame
Now I think, hell, it could be my fault
Old men in tank tops cruising the gift shops
Checking out the chiquitas down by the shore
They dream about weight loss, wish they could be their own boss
Those three day vacations become such a bore
I blew out my flip flop, stepped on a pop top
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home
But there's booze in the blender and soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on
Wastin away again in Margaritaville
Searchin for my lost shaker of salt
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame
But I know it's my own damn fault
Yes, and some people say that there's a woman to blame
And I know it's my own damn fault

Thank you your website is the best yet thanks again.
That's not a lost verse, that is a fake verse written by somebody who doesn't know how to count syllables to make a song flow. Jimmy Buffet knows better.
Wrong. It’s a real verse from the 70’s live album.
What’s the lost one? I know all of these. I’m confused
In Aspen 1977 video he sings . . . "God I still feel pain, I wish I had some cocaine, but that's been gone from early this morn"
Margaritaville is a song about accountability for one's bad choices. Wastin' away is not about being wasted. It is about losing meaning in your life. The song has an obvious allusion to Genesis Chapter 3 with "some people say there's a woman to blame" (Eve). 'looking for my lost shaker of salt" is not just about Margaritas. Salt is used in the New Testament as a metaphor for meaning. But the most striking thing about the lyrics is the progression from "It's nobody's fault" to "Hell, it could be my fault" to "It's my own Damn fault." To me, the song is saying that the only way out of despair is to take ownership of your failings, and get back in the game. Of course, this is all obscured by the very up beat musicality.
I encourage people to watch the video They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll as well as Rock and Roll Sorcerers of the New Age Revolution,. The latter (really both), I believe gives an explanation of such obscure lyrics in Rock and Roll songs.
I though there were two more verses about no more girls on the front porch and no more children playing in the sand since all the money was gone
