The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. [rapidly, as if agitated] But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself

He still gets major air when he jumps to end the tune, too, that's hip. If you want to compare him to an Elvis, you might have the wrong one in mind, but that's more the kind of honest childlike thing that's in this music. As to these lyrics, the final irony is if the Beamer Yupsters had really been up to producing economically the kind of consistent quality and quantity that Huey and Co. have and still are producing, we would not be in the MESS we are in today. So sad, that.
