Yeah this song is just awesome!!! It's really good on gh3, but the riff just doesn't sound as good as the original on there. But it does have a meaning though! Not too many people figure it out. It's kinda like Guns N' Roses "November Rain" in that way. I know the meaning to that one too, but the only thing people get, really, is that during the breakdown at the end, everyone's at a funeral. I got this music in guitar hero for xbox 360
I saw a show on VH1 once last year, that was something like a tribute o slt... the wilsons sung this and there was a enterwiew, they told this song was about a boy ano of the sisters fell in love for in the high school and he (and his friends) made fun of the *ugly* girl in that time (like her jaw was like a barracuda's... er, you know that's a fish with a BIG jaw, right?), so this song's something like 'Hey, I loved you, but you've mocked me... Now here I am, grown up, kicking ass, WHO'S BARRACUDA now???'
That doesn't make sense. This song is supposed to be about when the press were trying to say Anne and Nancy were lesbian sister lovers, and Anne was furious and wrote the song - it's about people making up stories that aren't true.

The band's former guitarist, Roger Fisher and the Wilsons wrote "Barracuda" with drummer Michael DeRosier. It appeared on the group's second album, "Little Queen" in 1977. The song was inspired by the band's anger over an obnoxious record label executive.

I love this song... I don't care about politics or even the full meaning of it. It's got a good beat and is fun to sing (as well as it is well sung by Heart) hence it is a good song to me. Music is about freedom of expression, not being judged.

I love this song too. Got it on a record released 1987 (the B-side of "Alone"). Just learned that they sang Barracuda in 1977, but my fav is the 1987 release, much more powerful :)

I heard an interview with Nancy Wilson and she said they wrote "Barracuda" because of the shabby treatment and insults they got regarding women playing rock guitar.
Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records attempted publicity stunt involving her and her sister Nancy in a made-up lesbian affair. The song particularly focuses on Ann's rage towards a man who came up to her after a concert asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend, band manager Michael Fisher. After he revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the original lyrics of the song

Hey kids, I saw Heart only a year after this song came out! I am old but I will remember all the great rock and roll of my youth forever. Share great music like this with your friends so that they don't fall for that no talent rap garbage.
I have not heard Fergie singing it, so I can't fairly make a judgement, but I have heard her, and am pretty sure it would be like Faith Hill's "Take Another Piece of My Heart". Nice singer; wrong song. Ann Wilson has the best female rock voice. This is not a pop song. It's not a hip-hop song. It is pure rock and roll--it has anger and attitude. And Ann's range, feel, tone, technique, and grit is so superior.

I've personally sang this one in a band and the lyrics look right to me.
And the story of the reporter and record execs is right. The song has underlying messages that clearly tell how pissed off they were. You just have to read deeper into the lyrics.
