This song is easy to understand, albeit open for interpretation, when put in context of the album. That's my belief, mine.
i think this song can be understood on a purely musical level. These lyrics, however, transcend meaning. We can enjoy and analyze the music, but I doubt that it is to be easily understood on any deeper level. Enjoying music does not mean "Blindly relying on innate abilities", it just means appreciating what one can, and leaving the rest unanswered.

Anyhow - awesome song, even if just for its musical and poetic quality
its about the begining of time and existance. duh (lol) if you know what physists believe how the universe began you would understand the first line "gentle storm". thundering silence because it is a loud "storm" how it all began yet no1 around to witness or hear it. then it goes onto about talking when man was first brought into existance (evolution) "crawl out of science" (creationism) "a dreamland if you dare". I don't feel like doing the rest right now im tired
@ charlito I think you right but after I saw the music video I also think it has a deeper meaning about society. It was different / Yet the same (people are different but were are all people that makes us the same)
The song is about the complete lack of balance in all things but the beauty is the predicament in which human thought is in because having a goal of perfection throws the cosmos into off balance and back towards chaos. So when all is forced to order chaos will shortly follow; it is a pendulum of an inescapable reaction.

it doesn't matter, what you think it is the meaning of this song; I guess transcends beyond our comprehension or true meaning, "Therein lies the beauty", that we can find, see, read, or feel, different meanings about it, is only a reflex of state of minds.
A big "theme" in the song seems to be oxymorons/paradoxes: "gentle storm", "thundering silence", "different yet the same" etc. On the other hand time and change. Pretty vague, I know, but I don't pretend to understand it any further.
