Jazzman Lyrics

Artist: Carole King

Left me, won't you lift me above the old routine;
Make it nice, play it clean jazzman.

1. When the jazzman's testifyin' a faithless man believes
he can sing you into paradise or bring you to your knees.
It's a gospel kind of feelin', a touch of Georgia slide,
a song of pure revival and a style that's sanctified.

Jazzman take my blues away; make my pain
the same as yours with every change you play.
Jazzman, oh jazzman.

2. When the jazzman's signifyin', and the band is windin' low.
It's the late night side of morning in the darkness of his soul.
He can fill a room with sadness as he fills his horn with tears.
He can cry like a fallen angel when risin' time is near.

Jazzman take my blues away; make my pain
the same as yours with every change you play.
Oh lift me, won't you lift me with ev'ry turn around.
Play it sweetly, take me down, oh jazzman.

Beautiful song, heard on the simpsons and i wanted to hear the real version

First line should start "Lift me" (not "Left me"). 2nd to last line - "turnaround" is one word - it is a music/blues term.

Love this song! I prefer Lisa Simpsons' voice though..

Can anyone please tell me what "a touch of Georgia slide" means?

Btw, anyone who prefers another voice to Carole King... clearly not a true believer. ;-)

I Aboslutly Love This Song, Carole has such an amazing voice and great talent. I partially agredd with Melissa, i think that Yeardly Smith (lisa's voice among others) did a great job covering it and held her own or so to say, no one will ever top Carole Original Version.

Hi, Cathy. "Georgia slide" means Georgia-style slide guitar. When I think slide I think blues music, so maybe that's why it's just "a touch" the jazz band's playing.

Well, at least Cathy, David and Kari have it right. Brilliant piece of music that should not be evaluated on spelling, words or 'other' voices. Are you kidding ? You cannot get more perfect than this.
