Born in a peasant family he went from Sybiria and became the best friend of the Russian tsar's family (I am not sure if he was a queen's lover, may be it was just a rumor, but thousands of women were crazy about him). Pretending to be a prophet and having big influence on the queen (as a healer he was curing her son tsarevich Alexey) he started to intervene in state affairs. He was one of the dramatic examples of the degradation of the Russian monarchy in the beginning of the 20th century. No wonder that eventually the Revolution came in 1917.
