Roses Are Red (my Love) Lyrics

Artist: Bobby Vinton

Roses are red, my love ... doo doo da doooo ...

A long, long time ago
On graduation day
You handed me your book
I signed this way:

"Roses are red, my love.
Violets are blue.
Sugar is sweet, my love.
But not as sweet as you."

We dated through high school.
And when the big day came,
I wrote into your book,
next to my name:

"Roses are red, my love.
Violets are blue.
Sugar is sweet, my love.
But not as sweet as you."

Then I went far away
And you found someone new
I read your letter dear
And I wrote back to you:

"Roses are red, my love.
Violets are blue.
Sugar is sweet, my love.
But luck may god bless you."

Is that your little girl?
She looks a lot like you.
Someday some boy will write
in her book, too.

"Roses are red, my love.
Violets are blue.
Sugar is sweet, my love.
But not as sweet as you."

This song reminds me of my very first date and it will always be one of my very favourite songs, even to this very day Wednesday 30th April, 2009. It certainly will remain the most romantic song that I have ever heard. (Mrs.) Joy Helen Sebbens

My Mum used to sing this to me at bedtime when I was a Little -- And now I sing this to my twin daughters at bed time. They dont make songs like this anymore.... (Roddy De Souza - Age 32)

This touching song perfectly mirrors the relationship my oldest sister had with her high school boy friend. After he went away to college, she dated and fell in love with another man. She wrote her "Dear John" to her former boy friend and he wrote a touching letter back to her. She broke down and had a long cry. Two months later this song was first played on the radio and when my sister heard it, she cried again.

I remember lip syncing this song in a talent show when I was in 4th grade, I was laughed at my all my friends and class mates while performing, because I was serenading another girl while she sitting in a chair on stage. I won second place, and went on through school and ended up on the being a member of the Missouri state choir in national madrigal choir contests for a two years in a row. This song brings back many fond memories for an guy nearly 50.

I dated my trur love through high school plus 5 years after. We had plans to get married but somehow things changed. Now 46 years later I still love very deeply and this song says the love I have for her will always be unrequited love .
