yes the Finwe's mightiest son was Feanor but Fingolfin's acts were much more brave .Feanor misused the "fire" in him and killed his brothers so i guess it would be right to say the title goes to Fingolfin.
@BG Lover It´s true that Fëanor misused his fire, but we are talking about might, not about bravery, and I think that the main history is called Quenta Silmarillion, "The tale of the Silmarils", what means that all the legend came from 3 objects, created by Fëanor, the only true king of all the eldars. Yes, Helloween invented power metal, but BG were the ones to make it cool for power metal to be about geeky stuff and fantasy, which is the norm now. BG's accomplishment is arguably the greater one.

Speaking as the lotr nut who has only ever read the lyrics for this, all I have to say about the whole mighty son thing is that fingolfin wins, for he succeed where Feanor failed. For it was Fingolfin and his blace Ringril who wounded Melkor, not Feanor.
