My Life Lyrics

Artist: Billy Joel
Album: My Life

Got a call from an old friend we'd used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American way
Closed the shop, sold the house, bought a ticket to the west coast
Now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A.

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm allright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone

I never said you had to offer me a second chance
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
I still belong
Don't get me wrong
And you can speak your mind
But not on my time

They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place
Then they'll tell you can't sleep with somebody else
Ah but sooner or later you sleep in your own space
Either way it's O.K. you wake up with yourself

good for billy joel. hangups about so called moral issues have for too many years wrapped society in a fantasy cocoon that blinds people to the realities of life. these are lyrics that open doors to the real world; mr joel is to be applauded for his candor. that said, billy, can i have my book back please? i need it for research. many thanks.thanks, reg potterton, repo540@aol.com

This is proper music this is, especially compared to the shit we have being produced today. I agree with reg potterton
Great lyrics and an all time fave of mine

nb - or is that just because I'm a teenager....

Apparently this was inspired by comedian Richard Lewis, who sold his house and bought a ticket to the West Coast and became a successfuk stand up comedian (and for a long time a raging alcoholic as well). He is currently a regular on the show "Curb Your Enhusiasm"

I'm quite independent/reclusive and have more outgoing (or should I say pushy) friends, this strikes such a chord with me. I appreciate that you think you're doing what's best for me, but give me my damn space. I know what I'm doing.
