Its Still Rock And Roll To Me Lyrics
Artist: Billy Joel
What's the matter with the clothes I'm wearing?
"Can't you tell that your tie's too wide?"
Maybe I should buy some old tab collars?
"Welcome back to the age of jive.
Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey?
You can't dress trashy till you spend a lot of money."
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound
Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me
What's the matter with the car I'm driving?
"Can't you tell that it's out of style?"
Should I get a set of while wall tires?
"Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?
Nowadays you can't be too sentimental
Your best bet's a true baby blue Continental."
Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk
It's still rock and roll to me
Oh, it doesn't matter what they say in the papers
'Cause it's always been the same old scene.
There's a new band in town
But you can't get the sound from a story in a magazine...
Aimed at your average teen
How about a pair of pink sidewinders
And a bright orange pair of pants?
"You could really be a Beau Brummel baby
If you just give it half a chance.
Don't waste your money on a new set of speakers,
You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers."
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways
It's still rock and roll to me
What's the matter with the crowd I'm seeing?
"Don't you know that they're out of touch?"
Should I try to be a straight `A' student?
"If you are then you think too much.
Don't you know about the new fashion honey?
All you need are looks and a whole lotta money."
It's the next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways
It's still rock and roll to me
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound
Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me

I'm 17 years old (and a mixed African-American mind you) and I love this song. It described how I feel about my generation nowadays. Please note, this came from a 17 year old.
Stop referencing your age. No one cares, and none of us are going to be "umg ur so culturally literate for lieking old musik ur so kewl im posting on my fb status now that ur so kewl" or whatever you hope. Good day.

I LOVE all of the older music! Its wayyyyyy better than the junk thats on the radio right now. I grew up with all of this stuff and I'm only in high school. But that's because my parents know how to pick great songs with words other than "Baaaabbbyyyy!" and stuff like that.
Such a beat snappy tune!,,
Mommy! They are saying bad words! I a 10 year old dancer, in competition, and I love this song! I didn't even know what this song was, let alone know who Billy Joel was until a chorus program! It's one of my favorite songs, I really enjoy singing it!
I love this song so much!!!! my band is learnin it right now :)
Somebody explain something I've always wondered about. I love this song, absolutely one of my all-time favorites, but in the lyrics I never could get the connection between the chiding the cool second person is saying to the nerdy first person, and the final reference to all the song genres concluding "it's still rock and roll to me". What does the first part (the chiding) have to do with the second part (the music comparisons)?
simple ass lyrics, sounds outdated, horribly overrated junk
@realist, what modern music isn't?
I absulutely freak'n love this song. I got so into singing it in my head and dancing in algebra today I tipped backwards out of my chair and knocked over a computer table.
@Michael N. He's saying that everybody is talking about how you have to have the new thing to be cool and then he gets made fun of when he suggests getting the "wrong" new thing, therefor the chiding voice calls him a nerd. Still rock and roll to me means that comparing a bunch of different things that are the same in the end (I.E., tires,) is pointless, because it's still just tires. He's saying everybody is talking about the "newest pairs of tires" but he's sick of it and he says that they are making it all too complicated and its till just plain and simple to me. hoped this helped :)
I ain't even born yet and I love this song.
from a guy that was around when Billy Joel was coming up - He's got a lot of really good stuff. I first tuned in in 1977 when I heard "Just the Way You Are" for the 3rd time on the radio, and I was absolutely hooked - it's a BEAUTIFUL song! Off the album, "The Stranger", which you should ABSOLUTELY listen to! aloha
