Only Women Bleed Lyrics

Artist: Alice Cooper

Man's got his woman to take his seed
He's got the power - oh
She's got the need
She spends her life through pleasing up her man
She feeds him dinner or anything she can

She cries alone at night too often
He smokes and drinks and don't come home at all
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed

Man makes your hair gray
He's your life's mistake
All you're really lookin' for is an even break

He lies right at you
You know you hate this game
He slaps you once in a while and you live and love in pain

She cries alone at night too often
He smokes and drinks and don't come home at all
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed

Black eyes all of the time
Don't spend a dime
Clean up this grime
And you there down on your knees begging me please come
Watch me bleed

Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed
Only women bleed

These lyrics weren't supposed to be "cool," it is a tribute to one mans uderstanding of what life was really like for most women in that time. And for that matter what it still is for many.
by Stasy on 7/6/2008 3:18pm
This is the real truth and the real life... everything is said here!!!
by zakimar on 7/12/2008 5:32pm
The song is about spousal abuse. It's to get people thinking about what some women have to deal.

Hopefully it will make some women realize that they have to call the police and leave the relationship and make men realize that they should make sure that these sort of cowards have to be stopped by the fathers, bothers, sons, relatives or neighbors of the victims.

I'm glad AC writes about more than driving a pick up truck or girls.

This is a great song to play in a club. No s&!t.
by Mama Jan on 10/24/2008 8:33pm
This song is a sad sad song. Women who live this life, and their are SOOO many, usually end up in those Texas cults, believing that only the men can be smart and must take control cuz the women are just stay there and take it. What a shame men have become.
by rj on 11/3/2008 3:45am
This song is cool for woman who had to go through what is mentioned. For others, it aint worth listening coz it aint a great rock song!!
by Dark Side of K on 11/21/2008 12:22am
One of the problems with leaving an abusive marriage is that many women do not have the resources- personal credit history, financial resources and other logistical dilemmas. Rebuilding your life from the bottom up- especially if you didn't have an independent life previously- is quite daunting.

I've been there; my ex-husband would do the whole "smokes and drinks and don't come home at all" bit. He never hit me or our kids, but the relationship was very emotionally abusive and rebuilding my life was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
by Lilith on 1/8/2009 1:59pm
What a shame yet a reality check, this used to be me. My divorce was like a rebirth, I changed in what I feel was a positive way and now they say I am like a pencil in the hands of God, writing Love letters to the world.
by Amazon Wannabe on 1/9/2009 11:20am
Interesting that Mama Jan ends by commenting what a shame men have become, but the Alice who's pointing out the situation is indeed a guy...
by alex on 1/14/2009 1:04pm
Some of us can see the irony in lyrics =)
by Suzy on 1/15/2009 4:51am
Your fuckin own fault. Why in the hell did you choose that bastard in the first place when the world is full of nice, gentle men who whine about their loneliness and who would never harm a fly?

Take the fucking responsibility of your choices, and think with your brain and not with your hormones, you silly cows!
by tina on 1/31/2009 1:35pm
Suzy: what a shame you have no idea of what you speak. Violence against women and domestic violence is a complex social issue, sadly supported by ignorance such as yours
by J Jill on 2/20/2009 10:31am
I'm not sure that he is saying that domestic violence is okay, merely that she should not have married someone like that. [that is to say that he was like that before they married] But yes, like you said, it is very sad and it is never the abused spouse's fault.
by Amber on 3/3/2009 10:58am
He was bringing forth a hush hush situation to light. Going to point out in 1975 when this song was written not many understood or even Noticed spouse abuse so No he isn't saying that this behavior is acceptable at all. as for the woman "Suzy" You have no clue what you are talking about. You see This song for me hits home. I met a "nice man" Kind sweet took good care of me until after the vows where said. Then the bastard come home one night stoned and drunk Beat me nearly killed me. SO Shut the hell up until you know what you are talking about little girl.
by E on 3/4/2009 1:40pm
I have lived this hell myself. I was finally able to leave, but he kept finding me everywhere I moved.

He lived a very fast and violent life, drinking wasn't his only vice. He was into drugs too.

I found freedom when he died at a very young age. I no longer have to fear him finding me again.
by parko on 3/26/2009 5:54am
my girlfriend left me and went back to it. i cant work it out.
by EvaLis. on 5/28/2009 5:23pm
Suzy. It´s very easy to be condemning but rather hard to face the fact that this could happen to you.
by John in Paris in Psychobolia on 7/7/2009 10:23am
I don't trust anything that bleeds three days and doesn't die!
by Donna on 7/12/2009 2:35pm
I grew up watching this happening to my mother back in the 70's. Swore it would never be me. I met a nice man married he started drinking and became the man my step-father was. Took me 10 yrs of putting up with it but I finally found a way out. My girls will Never live the life myself or mother lived. thank you A.C. for such great lyrics with such personal meaning for myself and so many others!!!
by XFactor on 7/29/2009 11:39am
This song is sexist. Men abuse women. Women abuse men. Asserting that "only women bleed" makes the bad assumption that men are powerful and women are powerless. Girls, don't give him the power. Egalitarianism rules. And Suzy, I hear you but you're a guy.
by Jacquelyn on 8/22/2009 7:29pm
You know we all make our own choices in this life when we can ,, but unfortunately we are not always in control to make choices in which others take for granted ,,Most woman when in a situation go in to a denial phase and blame thierselves for his abusive behavior and is why most never seek help as they are not only afraid of what he will do when the laws fail to protect her if she runs and society is so quick to judge she is afraid the blame will fall back on her so she makes excuses and hides the marks and quietly cries so he will not hear,, her only escape is hoping someone will rescue her a family member of someone to help stop her nightmares,, before it is too late ,,
by Pieta on 8/23/2009 7:24am
I agree with alex, there is irony in this song, even if he didn't intend it
by grace on 10/10/2009 12:17am
never happened to me - but i'm not blind to see - and know that every human being deserves to be treated in a humane way - simply because they are human - regardless of how or why they are in that situation -don't judge
by Marvin on 12/28/2009 10:20am
One of the deepest songs ever! I've enjoyed it since it's release and share it with people whenever the opportunity presents. I see far to much of the the implications of the song in real life as a probation officer.
by AllyCat on 1/25/2010 3:01pm
i hate men like that...I just hope i'll meet someone who actually loves me, not someone who marries me just to take advantage of me, like my mother
by SHea on 2/5/2010 12:17am
I am often frightened to think things could/will escalate within my relationship...like there's "no way it could happen to me" type of thing. Denial maybe, idk. I know his is manic/depressive and that can be trying.
by Philip on 2/19/2010 8:50am
Why did you leave out the second verse?!?
by Philip on 4/10/2010 7:32pm
Jacquelyn is so right. unfortunately there are many women who have no one to turn to. Or they think they don't. I helped two coworkers escape from abusive relationships and that is something I am very proud of. Most of our other coworkers ridiculed these women for being crybabies.
by Rob on 5/13/2010 9:45am
I consider this to be simply the best song he ever wrote.
by someone on 6/9/2010 12:32pm
a man should never hit a woman unless shes trying to kill him.I am anti-spouse abuse no matter what the reason. but ive been there before having a gf that likes to say things that really get under your skin, purposefuly, trying to get a rise out of you saying very mean things.. like evil, and i wanted to kick the fuck out of her.. but obviously i am more powerful so i just used to leave and go party and in the end that would get her back better then beating her probably ever would. guys.. when the woman makes you mad (does somethign really bad) just get her back non violently by going and doing something she would hate.. play her own game right back at her.
by Tonie on 6/11/2010 7:41am
its happend to my best friend..
by mary on 10/2/2010 12:40am
Unfortunately I wish this wasn't my case. I wake up wishing I wouldn't have I only breathe for my daughters I made a mistake n I can get away from it. Nobody can help as much as I wish someone would in public nobody has even tried. Im stuk here in this hell.
by Dom Nod on 11/19/2010 7:45am
I have to agree with Suzy a little bit. I was one of those 1000's of over-looked nice guys. I watched girls flock to those egotistical "confident" arrogant types, watched them get treated like dirt, watched them marry the creeps, have kids - and live a miserable life, moaning, "I wish I would have married a nice guy like you!" Me and my buddies would scratch our heads and wonder, "Why do girls flock to the obvious idiots and ignore us humble romantics?" I've been married 13 years and my wife thinks I'm the best thing that happened to her because I treat her like a Queen - and she treats me like a King! Win-Win!!!
by Carole on 1/3/2011 9:31am
well what can I say, as I pat myself on the back, coz in the end I did go to the police, & now he cant come near me, yes an arrogant man that worked away, & like a fool,I wasted 6yrs, but no more, he will get his karma, in one way or another, thank god I never had any kids with him,he can now drown his sorrows in his wild turkey, & smoke away till his hearts content, it just wont be around me, god forbid, any other poor woman, that he tries on the charm with...I hope she can see right through him...the police are wonderful people, I'm so glad that there is zero tolerance to this behavior, & I'm glad I still have all my teeth & sight...good luck to all & Happy New Year
by Buster on 2/6/2011 9:09am
So this song is not about menstruation?! ;)
by Mary Jo on 5/23/2011 3:39pm
Tina - Nice debate technique. Say that Suzy is too dumb to understand this complex issue.

Should we just wish our daughters good luck in this hard society or teach them to make good decisions? There is too much domestic violence, but that is in part due to too many women playing their roll.

by Michael Frattaroli on 7/31/2011 5:11pm
I always use the "you made your bed now you have to sleep in it argument"

Yes the issues are complicated but I teach my girls that all choices have consequences, and some consequences can last a lifetime.
by Lennie on 10/22/2011 11:13am
I first heard this song in 1976 It really struck home, and gave me the courage to walk out on an abusive relationship. whenever I hear it,I feel great empathy for anyone in an abusive relationship,
I married again in 1988 to a man that does not hit or abuse in any way,Thank God.

its a sad song for both men and women.sad for the women who have to go through it,sadder for the men who think thats how to love a women.but the truth is,it is a personal choice, women shouldn,t put up with it. men shouldn,t do it...peace
by Bangkok Bob on 2/18/2012 4:32am
You get what your given in this life. We all have the choice to move on if it don't suit vote with ya feet.

"Why in the hell did you choose that bastard in the first place when the world is full of nice, gentle men who whine about their loneliness and who would never harm a fly?"

Here a coupla years late, but Suzy, I gotta say: you a dumbass. First off, the world isn't full of men like that. Male on female/male on male domestic violence stats prove it. Secondly, a woman in a situation like that didn't CHOOSE the ass who punches her around, she CHOSE the fake nice-guy act he gave when he was trying to get into her pants. That's how it goes. Then violence, then trauma bonding, then a woman feeling trapped. It takes massive amounts of courage for women to leave in these situations, and I commend every single woman who has ever done it -- and offer all the good vibes I could possibly send to women who are trying!
by Jade on 3/27/2012 8:20pm
I've never had to suffer an abusive relationship but I don't blame the women that do. It must be awful when the man that swore to protect you is the one hurting you. It's not so easy for many women to leave, deep psychological insecurities will have developed from feelings of inadequacy. They are ground down from constant criticism and made to feel as though they deserve the abuse they are suffering. No one can judge another's actions without experiencing their pain first hand. Good luck and strength to all men and women who are trying to escape this hell.

I thought this song was about menstruation. What a bummer.
by Maxine on 12/20/2012 7:47pm
I absolutley love this song because it has reminded me of so many abusive relationships altough, I was never hit in any way that a man should hit but I understand the circumstance of what those women have been through in their past lives and is still going through in today's society. I just wish that world would be a better place to make all women and men feel comfortable with eachother.
by dicks on 4/23/2014 1:46pm
men bleed too, but only when there wife's shoot them for not pleasing them (sexually)
by Ricky Allen on 6/23/2014 11:42am
My seinor year we had a talent show. If sing you had to pick 2 songs. So I singed Poison 1st got low score. But when did a unpluged version of Only Women Bleed. I got a high score and won. I've always loved the song and meaning. LHS 98.
by Sugar on 11/7/2016 11:31am
@ Suzy...Because the men like this are so nice, sweet and everything that a Women wants and then when the have YOU HOOKED then the abuse begins. By that time they have You ostracized and No friends and Family to help the women/Man get out.
